THE
JOURNEY towards justice is unending,” according to Bhutan’s
Chief Justice, Dasho Sonam Tobgye. “The pursuit of justice
is the journey and not the destination. It calls for
vision, humanism, unity of thought and professional
knowledge to arm ourselves to be vigilant and adopt
the right mental attitude.”
The
Chef Justice was addressing the opening ceremony of
the first in-service training for 25 bench clerks on
September 11, a three month programme covering subjects
like “the Rule of Law in the Administration of Justice”,
“Functions and Structures of the Court”, “Computers”,
“Arrest and Pre-trial detention”, “Judicial Independence”,
“Rights of the Child in the Administration of Justice”,
and “Equal protection under the Law”.
The
training, for the bench clerks from various district
courts around the country, and five representatives
of the Royal Bhutan Police, comes as a response to the
increasing workload in all the courts and need for more
qualified officials, explained a legal spokesman.
“In
order to serve and help others, one must remain in society,”
said the Chief Justice. “If human society loses the
value of justice, the value of compassion, the value
of honesty, posterity will be burdened with more sufferings.”
The
Chief Justice expressed his appreciation to DANIDA for
sponsoring the course. Mr. Michael Vinding, the Liaison
Officer for Denmark was present at the ceremony.
