"THE PURSUIT of justice is the
journey and not the destination," said the Chief
Justice, Dasho Sonam Tobgye, inaugurating the 14th annual
conference of the Judiciary of Bhutan on May 13. "It
calls for vision, humanism and unity of thought and
constant vigilance.
The Chief Justice told more than 40
judiciary officials including the judges of the high
court, 20 district Thrimpons and Drungthrims participating
in the conference that the judiciary must continue to
review the system to ensure that the efficient judicial
process achieves its objective which is justice.
The process of delivery of justice
through equitable judicial remedies, he said, must continue
unrelentlessly. The need for such a conference is the
expression of people's unending quest for justice. "Therefore,
we must, together fulfill this scared duty."
The conference will look into aspect
of law that needs to be clarified and discuss various
issues facing the legal system.
During the conference, which is scheduled
to conclude on May 22, a performance report of the Judiciary
of Bhutan for the year 1997 will be presented.
